Our faith in Jesus is what enables us to receive his gift of salvation, not a particular set of words... but sometimes having an example can be helpful. If you are ready, consider using this prayer as a model. If not, consider talking to someone about your questions and concerns.
Dear God,
I am sorry for the things that I have done wrong in my life.
(Take a moment to confess anything that is on your heart right now.)
I turn from these things to follow you in a new life.
Lord Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross to pay the death penalty for me so that I could be forgiven and set free. I believe you rose again from the dead, for death could not hold you. I believe that you are now seated at the right hand of God, enthroned in power and glory. I believe you are who you say you are, the very Son of God, and the only way to God.
In the Bible, you promise that if I turn from my sins, and believe in you and what you have done for me, I'll receive new life and be saved from my sin and from death. Lord, I now turn, and I believe.
I thank you that, just as you promised, you now give me new life. Thank you that I am born anew by your Spirit and that my sins are forgiven. Thank you that I am now a member of your family. Thank you for giving me eternal life, and for the gift of your Spirit. I now receive that gift with joy. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Dear God,
I am sorry for the things that I have done wrong in my life.
